This year Little Dude is another year older, and we can do more exciting things since the days of mid- day naps have sadly ended. Our afternoons oscillates between some quiet time, indoor games, swimming or outdoor activities. Stormy afternoons can be extra long because we can’t swim or play outdoors, thus forcing our summertime adventures indoors. During the summer months, it rains every afternoon like clockwork, and I like to be prepared. I am always coming up with new ideas to keep Little Dude busy no matter the weather.
Little Dude gets a little nervous when he sees the skies darken and starts to hear the sounds of thunder. I try to distract him and take his mind off the storms. We built a secret hiding place in a closet that was under our stairs where we can put on a shadow puppet show or play. We also have a few “Rainy Day Games”, we play during storms. Little Dude loves flashlights, and I included one in this game. Little Dudes’ favorite Rainy Day game is this Flashlight Scavenger Hunt Game {Free Printable}.
I also created a basket full of “Storm Treats” and I keep them in the pantry for when a storm hits. Little Dude gets to pick up a special “Storm Treat”. I stocked up on some fun “Stormy Treats” to make hunkering down more fun while I was at Publix. There is also a Summer Storm Stock Up promotion going on that helps you stock up!

I love the idea of the flashlight scavenger hunt. It would make the dark seem not so scary for my little man! [client]
