My husband is having a secret love affair… with busy airports, hotel, and bad food. Yes, he’s traveling again. And it is all- good. I have my secret love affair too while he’s away. It’s a win- win situation. At least that is what I tell myself.
His suitcase was packed and he’s running out to catch a flight… 5 hours early. I know it’s his paranoia of missing a flight and heaven’s forbid what would he tell his boss. It has nothing to do with his love affair. I mean seriously, how long does it take to park, checked- in, and walk to the gate when we live 20 minutes away. He likes to go early, get work done, prepare for a meeting or try to get an earlier flight out. He says our house is complete craziness and he can never get anything done. But I know it’s really his love affair with busy airports…
He always acts so stressed out at home, however once he hits that hotel. It’s like he was at the spa for months. Must be because he just left his other affair… busy airport. Or maybe it’s the just… Hotel. The beautiful and quiet, clean room, pressed sheets, mini toiletries, and room service? Hotel must really be his main love affair. Alone time, a bed to himself, and a good night sleep; a peaceful night, he wakes up with no stress, taking however long of a shower as he wants, and taking his time to get ready. And he is able to sit and enjoy his coffee. His love affair…
It sounds amazing… But my love affair… home with the Little Dude in the “craziness” of our home; trying to work, and get household things done. However, I’m interrupted and stopping every other second. A bed filled with Little Dude and his adorable feet in my face or in my stomach. Or my 30- second shower filled with glorious mommy music, “Mommy I need a new show, Mommy I need to go potty, or Mommy, I’m hungry”. My shower and getting dressed is at world record pace. It’s pure comedy… trying to blow dry my hair and do my make up, so that just doesn’t happen. I’m luck to shower & get dressed! And have a relaxing time while I sip on a cup of tea. Really, What is that?
Inevitably something always, and I mean ALWAYS goes wrong at home when he travels. From the smoke alarm chirping, Little Dude getting the stomach flu, the air conditioning breaking, losing power, plumbing issues, and finding a mouse in the house. All those things happen conveniently while he’s away. It’s quite comical…

My hubs used to travel all the time, when my kids were very little and VERY sick… it was our way of life. And he would call and talk about the amazing food he ate and what he did with the co-workers across the country in various states that I would LOVE to see, it all sounded JUST amazing.
I was home up all night most nights with sick little ones…
Hmm…

This made me laugh – my husband is one of those “must get to the airport a zillion hours early” guys, too.

My goodness, sometimes it seems most of the words out of my boys’ mouths are “I’m hungry” and it gets frustrating. Fortunately my husband doesn’t have to travel often, but every couple months, I feel your pain here.

My husband doesn’t travel a lot, but when he does it’s usually for 10+ days at a time or several weekends in a row. After a rough day or two, the kids and I generally hit our rhythm and it is nice to have a different vibe to the house. Though they do always seem to get sick when he’s away!
