“It’s Magic”! The TV all of a sudden turning off, the garage door opening when we pull up, the automatic toilets and skinks in public bathrooms; “It’s Magic.” It is all the funny things we do without our kids seeing us do it. We do it for our children, just to see the delight on their little faces. The amazement and wonder in their eyes, as the little wheels turning in their brains trying to figure out the “Magic.” And we respond, “It’s Magic.” When in reality, we may have pressed the button without them seeing or waved our hand in front of the sink to turn on!
It is the innocence of childhood and a stage that they so quickly grow out of! The sweet, sincere wondering of how in the world did you just do that? To actually see in their eyes the excitement and see them try to figure it out. It makes us, as parents, feel like glorified super hero’s that we actually pulled off some “Magic”! And we did not even have to go to Disney! It’s one of those small parenting victories!
Never in a million years, would I ever imagine that my Little Dude would pull off the “It’s Magic” and try to do the same thing back to me. He would reverse the magic… And tried to pull off my sweet and innocence “It’s Magic” on me. I mean for goodness sakes he’s only 3 years old, almost 4 but still.
Little Dude and I were at home, and he told me he had to go potty. We went into the bathroom. While Little Dude was standing in front of the potty, he said, “Mommy, please count to five.” I thought nothing of it. So I started counting out loud… “1, 2, 3, 4, and 5″.
Then he peed… And then Little Dude said, “It’s magic”! “See mommy, I told you it was magic”! As I stood in the bathroom door witnessing the “Magic”, I knew that my innocent game would one day come to an end and we shared a good laugh!

Hahaha, kids are so stupid. That’s pretty good stuff though. God love ’em for making us smile when they’re not making us nuts.

Sarah,
This is a great post, and reminds me of the days when my daughter was filled with the wonder and magic of the world. Now she is a semi-jaded 14yo…
It also brings to mind that great ad VW had a few years ago (I think) with the kid dressed as Darth Vader, believing he had turned on the car with his own magic.

Hi Nancy! Oh boy! I bet 14 came in an eye blink! I’m scared for that day! I need to google that VW thing! I don’t remember it but I’m so curious! Thanks for stopping by! Are you going to the SITS event in Sept?

We used abracadabra to open the sliding doors on the van. I loved that they believed. Now it is magic if I can get them to pick up a wet towel off the floor. That is the magic I want.
